This is a recent portrait I painted for my new book. The painting is based off the likeness of my wife Kat. The purpose of this piece wasn't humor, rather I was going for something beautiful and fun. I wanted to portray a vampyre-like beauty without being too obvious. I was careful to hint only a slight fang or two. My wife isn't one who enjoys being drawn. So I was also trying to create something that she would enjoy and approve of. Happily I received her blessings. I started this piece off as a simple line drawing, and then slowly built up my values. When finished, I put slight hits of color in areas around her eyes, nose and mouth to suggest a bit of warmth.
